CoSo is Excited to Begin Upgrading to Adobe Connect Version 10.6!
December 16, 2019
The CoSo team is anxiously anticipating the upgrade of our customers to version 10.6 – the first upgrades are scheduled in January 2020! As part of the CoSo Managed Services, we thoroughly test and burn-in any updates or changes before deeming them stable and advisable for CoSo customers – this way, they avoid any potential difficulties. Once we confirm that the version is working as expected, we work with our customers to upgrade their environments and begin standardizing to that version.
As with 10.5, the move to 10.6 means users get to enjoy all of the enhancements made, and the new look and feel in the HTML client – which reflects more modern and familiar interface standards. This is also another major step toward moving away from Flash reliance with Adobe Connect, as participants (hosts soon to come) get the benefit of greater functionality built on HTML, i.e. participants can join meetings, webinars, and virtual classrooms in their web browser without downloading any additional software.
The HTML client supports the most commonly used features – for example, shared screens and content, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), shared live video, and the latest SDK for building HTML-supported custom pods. And keep in mind that if needs dictate, users can still access Connect through the desktop application or the Flash browser – in this case, the Connect session will revert to “classic view.” And if you already have the latest desktop application, there will be no new application needed with this version.
For those already experiencing the HTML client on version 10.5, you’ll still see some added functionality specific to 10.6. Namely, you’ll have the ability to play Connect’s interactive recordings in the HTML client – that is, you can scroll text, download files, click links, manage share-pods, etc. as you normally do in recordings, but now all in the HTML browser. Also, your existing recordings created on older versions of Connect will be available through the HTML viewer.
Other notable updates specific to 10.6 include a redesigned HTML Curriculum Viewer within your Connect Central, and more compatibility with various PowerPoint formats.
As we move toward a deprecation of Flash by 2021, version 10.6 is a significant leap toward Adobe Connect being fully functional through HTML. Connect version 11 in 2020, with full HTML functionality for both participants and hosts will be the final step toward being free of the need for Flash.
