Our Survey Shows Workers Want to Learn but Question Employer Training
Are your workers getting the most out of your eLearning sessions?
According to the recent results of our new Learning in the Workplace Survey, not so much.
While workers for the most part seem receptive to training—a whopping 98% consider company-sponsored education important, three quarters say the virtual training sessions they participate in are not worth the time they lose from work.
One of the biggest hurdles appears to be engagement: 56% say sessions too often fail to captivate.
Despite this, nearly half of those surveyed estimate that at least 60% of training content can be directly applied to their daily jobs. And most workers claim to pay attention to their virtual sessions at least 80% of the time. (And even when they do tune out, you may be heartened to know that 42% do so to continue working.)
So, what can training managers do to inject more “wow” into their sessions? The good news is that incredibly sophisticated virtual classroom technology solutions exist to help trainers engage workers like never before. When presented with the tools and features that are available to drive deeper engagement, workers ranked them as follows:
- More media-rich material like video and whiteboards (44%)
- Incorporating games to make sessions more challenging and fun (29%)
- More one-on-one interaction with presenters (29%)
- Quizzes to check progress (27%)
- Offering the ability for learners to attend on their own time (24%)
- More direct interaction with other learners (20%)
- The option to participate from a mobile device (19%)
The important thing to remember is this: workers value on-the-job training. What organizations need to find out is how well are they providing it. With all the advancements being made in eLearning, there are plenty of resources and capabilities trainers can tap in order to improve both the quality and relevance of their content.
Train on!
